Day trip to Zadar

90 km from Šibenik.

Zadar (north of Šibenik) – historic town on a peninsula surrounded by 3km-long, UNESCO-protected defense walls packed with history, culture and cafes. Ancient Rome is visible at the Forum together with Zadar’s most recognisable landmark, the 9th century Church of St Donatus, and the Cathedral of St Anastasia with its bell tower offering spectacular views over Zadar and the Church of St Mary, all steps from one another.

The Zadar Archeological Museum has a wealth of artefacts from prehistory to medieval times. For something different and unusual, there is a Museum of Ancient Glass that includes daily glassblowing, beadmaking and miniature bottle production demonstrations as well as the exhibition.

The People’s Square is surrounded by cafes and 16th and 18th century buildings. The ornate Five Wells in their own Square date back to the Venetian era. The most visited and highly photographed modern landmarks are the Sun Salutation and Sea Organ installations on the Zadar riviera.
