Risnjak National Park

The mountainous and thickly forested Risnjak National Park in Gorski Kotar is a spectacular national park, 71 km from Opatija, offering hiking, sightseeing and fresh alpine air for true nature lovers. Its unspoiled territory is truly an off the beaten track experience, as you’re not likely to encounter other visitors. It derives its name from the lynx (‘ris’ in Croatian) that resides there, along with with bears, wolves, deer, chamois, numerous bird and butterfly species. The park offers a boarding lodge and a mountain lodge just below the 1,418m peak.
